pkgManager for FreeBSD
Description
A modern package manager GUI for FreeBSD, written in Python with PySide6 and
QML. It began life as a fork of OctoPkg, the Qt front end for pkg; that code
now lives only in the git history on the master branch, and the current tree is
a rewrite.
Status
Early and not ready for daily use. It installs, updates and removes packages, but it is nowhere near what it is meant to become, so please do not download it expecting a finished tool yet.
Design
main.pystarts the Qt application and loads the QML interface.- A Qt-side backend controller runs the package source commands through QProcess and owns the list models exposed to QML.
- Package sources are pure Python with no Qt in them: each one describes its
commands and parses the output.
pkgis implemented today, with pip and the ports tree planned.
Running it
Needs FreeBSD with py312-pyside6 installed from pkg and Python 3.12. Create
a venv with system site packages so PySide6 comes from the system, then run
main.py from it.
